Football Soccer Mondial takes the beautiful game and shrinks it down to a flick-and-shoot tabletop format. Each side fields 5 players including the goalie, and instead of running around a pitch, you flick your players across the field to move the ball and create chances. You can take on the computer solo or share the screen with a friend in two-player mode, and with 8 teams drawn from the Beano and Dandy series to choose from, there is plenty of personality on the pitch.
A turn gives you up to 3 kicks. For each one, you set your aim and shot strength, then flick — either striking the ball directly or using one of your players to nudge it into a better position. The key rule is discipline: foul the other team and you lose control of the ball, cutting your turn short and handing the momentum to your opponent. Score more goals than the other side before the final whistle and the win is yours.
Because positioning persists between turns, the game rewards thinking like a chess player as much as a striker. Do you spend your three kicks chasing the ball, or leave a player parked in space for the next attack? Shot strength is equally tactical — a full-power flick covers ground but risks losing control, while a gentle tap keeps the ball close and your options open.
The best tip is to treat your first kick of each turn as a setup, not a shot. Move a player into a passing lane or screen off a defender, then strike with your second or third kick when the angle opens up. On defense, avoid reckless lunges near your own goal, since a foul there hands the opponent a golden chance. And watch the goalie — shots aimed at the far corner beat him far more often than straight blasts.
